With the end of the year looming, it's time to take stock of your RV protection options. Locking in your RV warranty quote before the year runs out should be at the top of your list. Today, we’ll be going over some important details on year-end changes for coverage, and how an extended warranty can protect your life on the road.
When to Buy
If you haven’t already locked in coverage, it’s a great idea to check into warranty options before the year runs out. With every new year, your motorhome or towable RV is considered a model year older. This means that on January 1st, the RV industry considers all rigs one year older, regardless of when they were purchased or put into service. As vehicle age is a large component in pricing and eligibility for RV extended warranty coverage, this can result in big changes to the options and pricing available for your coach. This is why it’s so important to lock in your quote and save some money!
Are RV Warranties Worth the Investment?
It’s a tough question to answer. Every RVer is different, and we are all comfortable with different levels of financial risk. That said, there are a few things we can be certain about:
Your RV will break down. Mechanical and electrical failures are bound to happen. It’s inevitable and a less glamorous reality of RV ownership. Research shows that 30% of RVs will suffer a major breakdown by the second year on the road. By the fifth year, that number increases to 80%. By the eighth year on the road – nearly every RV will see a catastrophic failure.
We also know the cost of those repairs is only going up. With more RVers on the road, traveling in RVs that are more complex than ever before, the demand and skill level required for repairs is staggering. This has shown an increase in labor costs and part time over the last several years, and it’s unlikely that trend will slow down.
RV warranties are built to help you out in these exact scenarios, when you’re staring down an unexpected and costly repair bill. Why not have a warranty company, like Wholesale Warranties, pick up the tab instead? Having financial protection against a hefty repair bill allows you to worry about other important things—like planning your next trip!
If you’re considering a policy, we recommend getting a quote from our friends at Wholesale Warranties. They are a leading provider of RV extended warranties direct to consumers. Their goal is to offer superior coverage, unmatched customer support, and an extensive education on warranties so you can feel confident when choosing an extended warranty for your motorhome. We have personal experience with this company, and can attest to their customer service and coverage.
Let’s dive back into these year-end changes. Depending on the type of rig you have, eligibility might look different after the first of the year! Generally speaking, motorhomes will be eligible for coverage aged if they are aged 20 model years and newer! If your rig is 16 - 20 model years, you will be limited to powertrain only coverage. For towable RVs, 15 model years and newer can get full, comprehensive coverage! If you’re close to one of these age brackets, you’ll want to lock in coverage before it’s too late.
Putting miles on your rig is the fun part—it means you’ve gotten out there and explored! But keep an eye on that odometer. Mileage is another big component of RV warranty pricing and eligibility. For instance, all comprehensive options are only eligible for coaches with less than 100k miles, with coach coverage (interior only, no powertrain options!) ending at about 125k. This can vary depending on the warranty company you choose, but it’s important to keep an eye on your mileage. Simply put, the higher your mileage, the costlier your policy will be!
