Keyser Creek/Horseshoe CampgroundKeyser Creek Rd – Free Camping – Boondocking – Colorado – Grand County Free - no hook-ups – many spots by Keyser Creek Verizon: Wi-Fi & phone would not work. AT&T: Wi-Fi does not work Roads/Directions – From Parshall, CO take County Rd 3 to Horseshoe Campground* and turn left on Keyser Road (Forest Service Road 139).
Activities included hiking, hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and camping. Last Sunday we took a drive down Keyser Creek Rd – a drive I’ve loved since the first time I went because a lot of the drive is beside the stream (Keyser Creek – see note). I love the view and sound of water running over rocks. It’s so peaceful. This is one of those places I would love to camp however most of the sites along the stream are nestled in the pines and are better suited for tents, popups, or small campers or fifth wheels, not our 40 ft RV. As you go further up the road there are more sites suited for larger fifth wheel & trailers, but the road does get rougher. You can also go to the top of the pass and there are areas in the meadows to park. You can continue following the road on to Fraser, CO. You will also be able to enjoy many wildflowers on your drive. Note: Until I started researching Horseshoe Campground I assumed since because it was called Keyser Creek Rd. we were driving along Keyser Creek. However, the info for Horseshoe Campground says it’s along the Williams Fork River which makes sense. I’m going to need to get a new forest service map and verify all of this! Watch for updates! *Horseshoe Campground – first come, first served forest service campground. No hookups, no drinking water but there are vault restrooms & trash service. Sites will accommodate tents, trailers and small RV’s. You can find additional information and fees on the forest service site. A place I wish our RV would fit! If you go, enjoy and please share photos and you thoughts in the comments.
